What you need to do
Applications are available from the DEAP Child Care Resource and Referral Office or you can download the required forms.
You must carry fire insurance on your home and liability insurance that will cover children coming into your home for care.
The State of Montana will do criminal and child protective services background checks on you and any adult living or working in your facility.
You will need to attend a 4 hour orientation within 60 days of obtaining your child care registration.
Family Child Care Home
For the provider who cares for up to six children at one time in her home. These include the provider's own children under the age of 6; and up to three children under the age of 2.
Group Child Care Home
For two providers caring for 7-12 children in the facility at one time. The number includes the providers' own children under the age of 6; and up to 6 children under the age of 2.
Montana Child Care Law
Anyone providing child care to three or more children on a regular basis is required by Montana law to be registered or licensed unless they are established primarily for educational purposes (i.e. preschools or after-school programs).
